Sarita Sharman’s passion for interior design, combined with her technical expertise in electrical work, sparked a love for lighting during the dynamic townhouse boom of the 1990s. As a freelance lighting consultant, she quickly recognised that lighting wasn’t just an afterthought—it was an art form. Sarita became determined to shift the mindset of developers and architects who relied on standard, budget-driven solutions. She championed the idea that beautiful, affordable lighting could elevate any space and enhance the overall experience.

Sarita’s approach was personal and bespoke from the beginning. She worked closely with clients and their electricians to create tailored lighting solutions that reflected the unique vision and needs of each project. This hands-on collaboration ensured that no detail was overlooked, offering clients a lighting experience unlike any other.

In 1999, Sarita Sharman Lighting was officially born with our very first project for the prestigious Stanley and Livingstone Boutique Hotel in Zimbabwe. From there, we’ve illuminated spaces across South Africa and internationally, bringing our expertise to hotels, lodges, residences, restaurants, and commercial spaces.

In 2019, Sarita expanded her work to the USA, where she continues to bring her signature lighting vision to new markets. Meanwhile, Marieta Viljoen, Sarita’s trusted partner, oversees our Johannesburg office. Marieta’s deep knowledge and experience in lighting design have been invaluable in keeping us at the forefront of ever-evolving LED technology.
